Description
This is High Grown Kenyan green tea from the Nandi Highlands area (Western Kenya).
Kosabei is quite simply an outstanding tea, at once light and profound, gentle and astringent with notes of malt, currant and moist earth – but importantly FREE from Flouride and therefore probably the very best loose leaf tea you can buy.
Extremely high in health boosting antioxidants, this pure tea offers many benefits as a result including;
- Enhancing immune system function and efficacy
- Improving cardiovascular function
- Balancing cholesterol levels in the blood
- Protecting and enhancing brain function
- Removing harmful bacteria from the mouth and throat, helping prevent bad breath
- Boosting the body’s fat burning capability
In addition to the health benefits this is also and extremely high quality tea due to the way it is grown and processed.
Almost 100% of Kenyan tea manufacture is CTC (cut, tear and curl) this involves fairly aggressive rollers that on a commercial scale “mince” the tea produce a uniform product ideally designed for teabags. Large surface area of leaf to water = quicker infusion times !
BUT, this tea is rescued from the CTC machines. So after an initial and very basic leaf breaking process the tea is dried and packed. No further leaf manipulation, no fermentation, no sorting into grades – it is a very unusual tea and complete departure from the mainstream.
It tastes fabulously fresh – nothing is lost, as it it vacuumed on the estate and again at our facility and has not been in contact with the air probably for more than a few hours. Quite unique.
30 tea bags per pack. (Green tea).
More Info
At a time when many news stories concern how many potentially dangerous impurities can be found in large scale produced teas it is reassuring to find a pure variety which guarantees freshness, flavour and above all purity.
A recent article in the Daily Telegraph highlighted how cheaper blended teas are often produced from older leaves which concentrate flouride potentially risking bone disorders as well as other health issues, and that’s not what we want from our daily cup of ‘Rosie Lee’.
These teas are not organically certified – BUT we have a close relationship with the estate and so know that no pesticides are used – also being cultivated at an altitude above the “bug line” pesticides would generally not be necessary anyway.
The husbandry practiced on the estate is to such a high standard that the plucking “table” is dense and the absence of daylight beneath the bushes means no weeds and therefore no herbicides are necessary or used.
The estate has not undergone an organic transition – which generally will involve reduced yield for 2, 3 or 4 years and subsequent loss of employment.
The teas are unsorted (usually teas are passed over a series of sieves and electrostatic rollers at the end of production to remove fibre and to separate into orderly leaf grades) – so the appearance of Natural Tea is very mixed and quite unique.
And don’t forget those antioxidants, according to our “colorimetric tests” this tea has a 12% polyphenol content – this is extremely high!
